Bass Drum
If you are looking for a big drum, you should buy the largest that you will find in an orchestra, a bass drum. The bass drum is a really cool instrument because of its low pitched (bass) sound. The sound is given to the drum due to its makeup. The larger the drum is, the deeper the sound. Therefore, the bass drum is a larger cylinder which is covered on both sides by either a type of animal skin, leather, plastic or other soft yet sturdy material. You cannot tune a bass drum like a guitar or piano, but depending on how you play the bass drum will determine the sounds that it makes.
Different settings
Bass drums are used in three particular settings. The first setting that you may see this drum is in an orchestra. When an orchestra member plays the drum in an orchestra, the drum will be located on top of a stand. The next place where you may find this type of drum is in a band. This can be either an orchestra band or in a rock band. In this case, the drum would be placed in an upright position. The head drums should be fast outward on both sides. The final place where you might expect to see a bass drum is in a marching band. You will see the drum hanging from a harness that a band member adorns.
Different parts
Some integral parts of the bass drum include the head, the rim and the tension screws. The head is where the fabric or skin covers the cylinder. The rim is the circumference of the cylinder drum and usually holds the tension screws and the fabric or skin in place. The tension screws can be altered to your liking. For a louder sound, you may tighten the head. Sometimes when you play a lot the head loosens up and it needs to be adjusted. You can do this by tightening the tension screws.
The bass drum is a popular instrument that many children and adults enjoy to play. You can learn in a school band, a private music center or through personal lessons.
